Dr Spooner is the Coordinator of COMPaRE-PHC and a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity, at UNSW. She has conducted public health research and evaluation since 1986 in academic, government, not-for-profit and commercial settings as well as at the local-area health level. Her research areas include the epidemiology, prevention and management of health-risk behaviours (e.g. drug use) and health problems (e.g. HIV, obesity) with a social epidemiological approach. She also has extensive experience in health service evaluation.

Catherine is a co-supervisor of a COMPaRE-PHC PhD candidate: Nouhad El-Haddad.

She brings to her role as COMPaRE-PHC Coordinator her experience in the establishment of a research centre in Fiji School of Medicine and management of a successful consulting business.
