Dr Lakhan is involved in COMPaRE-PHC's study of health literacy among patients presenting to the Southern Queensland Centre of Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.

Dr Lakhan is a Senior Research Officer at the Southern Queensland Centre of Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care. In addition to ten years’ experience in acute care nursing, Prabha has a strong record in the conduct of hospital–based clinical research and evidence-based practice, having conducted many systematic reviews of the literature on a variety of topics. Her research interests include health literacy among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients attending a primary health care setting; investigation of social and clinical factors associated with hepatitis C in patients attending a primary health care setting; assessment and management of pain; assessment and management of dysphagia in children and adults; chronic disabilities such as acquired brain injury and persons in persistent vegetative states; maintenance of professional boundaries between nurses, children and families; competence of new nurse graduates; adverse outcomes for older patients admitted to hospital; and management of behaviours of concern among residents of aged care facilities, and hospital-associated infections.
