Professor Hayman, whose people are Wakka Wakka (from South Queensland) and Kalkadoon (from Cloncurry, Mt Isa area), is a medical practitioner and the first Indigenous person to become a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine. Professor Hayman is Clinical Director of the Southern Queensland Centre of Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Inala Indigenous Health Service) in Brisbane and also holds an appointment in the University of Queensland's School of Medicine. He has been listed by the NHMRC as a High Achievers in Australian Health and Medical Research.
